ATEC 2013 highlights animal welfare in its December conference

Bali Safari & Marine Park is now all set for the upcoming Animal Training and Enrichment Conference this year. Being the host of ATEC 2013, the institution has been busy for the past few months for Indonesia's first hosting of the program. Scheduled in December 1 to 5, the event will take place in Gianyar and has the theme Hand in hand . . . naturally.

According to the organisers, one of the highlights of the program is the conference planned by the Taman Safari. This function primarily aims to demonstrate their commitment to animal management. The committee invited a specialised group of international experts who will share their knowledge on animal training and will give development opportunities for zoo professionals.

The two keynote speakers, who will also be the facilitators in the conference, are Steve Martin of Natural Encounters, Inc., and Valerie Hare of Shape of Enrichment. The former is an animal trainer who has been teaching the art and science of animal behaviour change; the latter is an active member of the International Conference on Environmental Enrichment Committee (ICEE) and Bear Care Group BOD.

The organisers expect that the conference will be a success as the registration continues. More interested parties are expressing their interest to get involved in the care and enrichment of captive animals. The conference in December will be centred at Bali's Taman Safari and Marine Park. This place will also serve as the entertainment base for the whole event. There will also be networking sessions that will complement an entire program of hands-on workshops and seminars.

"We are excited to be hosting such an event that will bring many animal industry professionals all together in one place to benefit from the enriching professional development opportunities for the international delegates . . ." said the ATEC 2013 organisers on their website.
